Numbers are Everything

How much does your average mug weigh? – According to Google, the average coffee mug weighs between 250g – 400g.  A Rosa Lifestyle mug weighs 126g….that’s less than your average small banana!  (Actually, that’s made me feel a bit peckish now…)

One of the fundamental aims of Rosa Lifestyle was to bring a two handled mug to the market that was both functional and attractive.  I wanted to create beautiful mugs that would provide people with the extra support they needed in attractive designs that looked resplendent on anyone’s kitchen table.  But to be functional it had to be light!

Based on personal family experience, one of the major limitations of other two handled mugs was the weight.  Whilst china and ceramic mugs are the more traditional material used and available, I found that they were just too heavy for a family member to lift empty never mind with any hot fluids in it!  The first solution was to find a plastic mug that was lighter and would offer a bit more control but there wasn’t anything that I saw that was inspiring in its design, or reflected our family member’s personality.

So, I thought that I’d create my own mugs!  I wanted a mug that looked like a china or ceramic mug but without the weight, and I achieved this by producing our mugs from a melamine material.  Melamine has the look of a china or ceramic mug but crucially weighs a lot less – and so the Rosa Lifestyle mug was born!

This very lightweight mug enables anyone with limited dexterity or a weak grip to lift and use the mug with a lot more confidence and control which in turn reduces the risk of spills and burns.  Our lightweight mugs also promote hydration which, particularly if someone using one of our mugs is living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, is extremely important and can be (and was) the source of a fair amount of frustration all round.  If someone is comfortable and feels confident using their mug independently, they’re more likely to be keen to enjoy a little bit more of that cuppa!

And so, in 126g, we aim to empower everyone to continuing enjoying that simplest, yet fundamentally important, pleasure – your favourite cuppa (ok, and maybe a slice of cake or a biscuit or two)!
